One Idea for Sharing Career Resources

Invite advisors from CACC, CSSE and major departments to present their best practices in weekly meetings to start after Spring break.

We might categorize these by career development phase: self-assessment, exploration, focus / goal setting, job search and career management.

We can post these on this wiki by phase for all to check out. This could be like a "brown bag" session. We can try this for a few weeks a see how it goes. Your thoughts?

I found this late last fall as I was inquiring about career library resources in a phone call to Bev Christie, Dir. of Career Services, at Westiminster. I have been thinking about getting a similar program going here at UVU. Given our wide advisor base, I think it would be a wonderful option for some students who are ready for this. In the CACC we are pushing student to majors--that is our goal.

I have created a UVU version that I call UVU "CAREERFIT Program." My goal in drafting it is to get students to know who they are through various tools we have here--MBTI, SII, Choices, etc. Armed with a knowledge of self (personality, interests, values, skills, talents and achievements) students will be able to make more informed career decisions. So, with that said, I guess I need to get my version up on the WIKI for comments.

Robert,
If you put the file on our common S: drive ,then I can demo, this afternoon, how to upload the file to this Wiki so that other ALG members can comment on it.

After drafting the CareerFit brochure, I was introduced to a similar brochure developed by CSSE. It follows a similar four year timeline and seems to be more oriented towards preparing students for gathering career information and preparing students to enter the work world. If we could get the CSSE brochure up for review, it would help with the evaluation.
